About Us

Access to quality healthcare is fundamental to the overall health of the community. We want to do everything to help our patients–and the entire community–progress, improve, and move toward a healthy lifestyle.

Advance Community Health (formerly Wake Health Services) is the non-profit, Community Health Center in Wake and Franklin Counties with a mission to provide primary care services to uninsured and medically-underserved patients. For more than 40 years, we have been an anchor of quality, compassionate health and dental care for more than 25,000 patients of all ages.

The community-based, patient-driven Health Center provides comprehensive primary healthcare, dental care, nutrition education, behavioral health and a healthcare for the homeless program.

Our Mission

To deliver quality, compassionate primary healthcare –every patient, every time –in response to the needs of our communities.

Our Vision

We are a model of affordable healthcare and a trusted partner, building healthy communities, one patient at a time.

Our Economic impact:

Advance Community Health provides about $4.5 million annually in free medical care, dental care and free drug prescriptions for patients who cannot afford to pay.

What is a Community Health Center?

Advance Community Health is one of 34 federally-funded health centers in North Carolina. A Community Health Center provides a patient-governed, patient-centered health care home that integrates high quality medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy and enabling services without regard to a person’s ability to pay. They are private, nonprofit organizations that remove common barriers to care by serving communities who otherwise confront financial, geographic, language, cultural or other barriers. Our Funding

Advance Community Health advocates for the health of its patients and for a healthy community. We connect people – no matter their circumstances — to the resources they need. Quality care is only possible because of generous support from donors, grantors and partners that enable us to fulfill our mission of providing access to quality healthcare to the underserved.
As a nonprofit Community Health Center (CHC), Advance Community Health is a valued partner to organizations that wish to improve the health of people in our community. Nearly one-third of Advance’s funding comes from foundation, business, civic, faith community and individual donations. For example, Advance receives a federal grant. This funding is tied to meeting high standards and providing a broad range of wrap-around services. Advance also accepts Medicare, Medicaid and private insurances.

Advance Community Health receives federal Health and Human Services (HHS) funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.

About Our Name Change

Wake Health Services changed its name to Advance Community Health in August 2015. The new name reflects the expanded offerings and transformation of healthcare delivery for the organization. It’s a new name, but we still have the same high quality services, commitment to advancing the care of patients and the health of the communities we serve! Read more.
